How to add decoration: surface slip-stitch method.

There are a number of techniques you can use to add decoration to your crochet pieces - the most common of which is the surface slip-stitch method. This method involves completing a slip stitch on the front side of your work to essentially 'draw' out your pattern.

Step 1.

Insert your crochet hook from the front of your project where you would like your decoration to start. Attach a slip knot from the reverse side of your work and pull through a loop.

Step 2.

Insert your hook into the next space along in the direction you would like your design to go. Yarn over from the reverse side and pull through a loop. Complete your slip-stitch by pulling the second loop through the first loop on your hook.

Step 3

Continue working along until you have completed your decoration. Once complete, break yarn and secure at the back of your work.
